These cupcakes are a Valentine’s Day favorite, with their vibrant red color and velvety texture. Topped with creamy cream cheese frosting and a sprinkle of heart-shaped candies, they’re as beautiful as they are delicious.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Cream cheese frosting store-bought or homemade

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  • In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together oil, buttermilk, egg, food coloring, vinegar, and vanilla.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  • Fill cupcake liners 2/3 full and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let the cupcakes cool before frosting with cream cheese frosting. Decorate with heart-shaped candies if desired.
