These cookies bake up thick and chewy with oats, peanut butter, chocolate chips, and red, white, and blue M&Ms in every bite. They’re festive without being fussy, and the soft centers make them especially good for a holiday dessert table.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups red white, and blue M&Ms, divided

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Cream the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  • Mix in the peanut butter until smooth.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla, then mix until combined.
  • Stir in the flour, oats, baking soda, and salt.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and 1 cup of the M&Ms.
  • Chill the dough for 20 minutes.
  • Scoop 2-tablespoon portions and space them 2 inches apart.
  • Press the remaining M&Ms onto the tops.
  • Bake one sheet at a time for 11 to 13 minutes.
  • Let the cookies cool on the pan for 10 minutes.
